Dog Bark Control Training Techniques by Jason Weber
Inappropriate Dog Barking can get a real problem for both dog lovers and everyone around them. Around 30 per cent of dog owners have to cope with that situation, and training their canines proper barking habits for most of them is impossible.
Dogs bark for a variety of reasons: they may be thirsty, bored, stressed, seek for attention, protect their home from intruders, want to say a message, and so long. Also, some dogs can begin barking with no particular reason, and this habit is called excessive barking.
To deal with dog’s unwanted barking, the first thing to dy is to attempt to see the stimuli for barking, and if possible reduce them. If your canine’s barking has reason, you can very easy to fix it – simply remove the cause. But when you can’t understand the stimuli, try other bark control options.
The first one, and most obvious, is Dog Training. As it was stated before, in most cases dog barking is triggered by anxiety, boredom, physical needs, protection or other “respected” reasons, even if their owners may not see that. And this behavior will only get worsened by punishing and shouting. Proper bark control training regularly exploit positive or negative stimulation that teach the canine to keep from bad behavior.
While positive training is more effective, sometimes dog lovers have no choice but to refer to negative stimulationas well.
The main aspects of bark control training include:
Say “no” as soon as your dog begins barking. The caninedefinitely will not understand it from the very beginning, but will realize soon what you mean by that.
Soon after that, use a watergun to sprinkle water into dog’s face if he didn’t seize barking (together with saying firm NO). Add a little of lemon oil in it (canines find citrus scent unpleasant) or try any other negative stimulus that your dog dislikes. This is crucial, as if your dog likes getting sprinkled with water, for him chronic barking will mean with playing.
Try placing dog’s toy into his mouth when he’s barking (he can’t bark with his mouth full).
Give a treat after the canine stops barking.
Stop your dog’s barking immediately when he sets off.
Try to connect this behavior with a command (with a clicker or words) and later take control over his barking with the same method.
Please bear in mind that the most important in successful dog training is patience, consistency and firmness. You must be consistent on your every step. Your dog needs to realize that every time he starts barking a requence is expected. Besides, you won’t see the results immediately, any training will take some time, but if you respect these 3 principles, you will eventually succeed in forming good barking behavior without hurting your dog mentally and physically.
